In 2006 Project Stretch Dentistry responded to the dental health needs of the children in New Orleans by sending two teams of dental professionals. Dental care in New Orleans was limited at best due to the devastation that Hurricane Katrina left. Most Dental offices remained closed; waiting for the opportunity to rebuild after the flooding. The two Project Stretch teams provided emergency care, dental cleanings, fluoride treatments, Toothprints®, sports mouth guards, and dental health education. We were all moved by both the devastation Katrina unleashed on the community and the strong uplifting spirit of the people in New Orleans.

The New Orleans Mission has continued with modifications, as the Dental Community has rebuilt we have sent teams to support them. We now provide dental screenings to school age children with referrals to local dentists.

Our program also includes dental health education, Toothprints®, fluoride varnish applications and sports mouth guards. In 2008 we partnered with Louisiana State University Dental Hygiene program and GNO Supports & Services Center Dental Resource Center of Louisiana to better serve the children.
